Thank you for taking the time to get to know me.
Growing up in Virginia Beach, I was raised by two loving parents—my mother and stepfather—both of whom were enlisted in the military. They gave me the things I needed and taught me that I was capable of greatness.
I had other plans, though. In my mind, I had it all figured out, so I did what I wanted. The result was a rocky period in my life. As a teenager, I was in and out of group homes, detention centers, and ultimately, juvenile prison. Along this journey of defiance, I was introduced to a man who would change my life—becoming a friend and eventually my mentor.
I was 13 when I met Dr. Adolph Brown III. I quickly learned that he was a no-nonsense kind of guy, but he had a heart of gold. He gradually took to me, and over the years, we kept in touch. What I didn't realize at the time was that with every conversation, he was giving me the tools I needed for my future success. He taught me how to be a leader, how to take accountability for my actions, and how to develop strong, healthy habits that would take me so much further in life than the path I was on.
Under his tutelage for three years, I became the man you see today. My goal now is to pay it forward. I understand that sometimes, it takes an outside source to get through to a young person in ways their loved ones have always tried to. I want to give our youth the opportunity to have someone in their corner—someone they know won‘t give up on them. I want them to understand that just because they've had a rough start, it doesn't mean they can't change their future.
It's never too late.
I invite every parent and child to join Locked In and help my team and me mold young lives, equip them with the tools they need, and guide them toward reaching their fullest potential.
Let's get Locked In!
Born and raised in Virginia Beach, Jahzeel Mumford always moved to the beat of his own drum. At an early age he gravitated towards music to escape the reality of being raised by his single father and grandfather due to his mother’s ongoing addictions to substance abuse. Never a victim, he found confidence in his walk when he realized the benefits of owning who you are and that being different pays. Music is still his drive, as his latest venture has led him to become a member of Voices of Fire singing group, which was featured on Netflix under the direction of Pharrell Williams.
Born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia. The oldest of four siblings, Jacobe is a dedicated father and passionate singer-songwriter. Committed to empowering youth, he helps them realize they have choices and are not alone. With a heart for change, Jacobe embraces the challenges of going against the grain to make a positive impact in the world.
